 Thank you ;)

…there were 29 young boys and girls, who had to get up early (VERY early- about 06:30) in order to get a bus. Their  final destination: BERLIN. Unfortunately the vicious, evil bus driver refused to come and catch them up.So they had nothing but one opportunity: go to the big train station in Hadmersleben and wait until a train to Magdeburg arrives. And so they waited. And waited. And played magic little games like ‘let me see your funky chicken’. After two hours – finally- the high-speed HEX train arrived and so they could go to Magdeburg… eat at Mc Donald’s… see the police along with nice skinhead football fans and – most importantly – catch the train to Berlin. On the long journey, after an exhausting and thrilling adventure in order to find some seats, everyone was excited to see the big city at the river Spree. The capital of Germany. But the confused weather god thought Berlin to be London and so he sent some rain and a lot of wind when they arrived in Berlin.Luckily later on this day, he realized his failure and corrected in a very charming way: nice temperature and sun. no rain.  But lets go back to our main actors…

German Group Update!

Theatre meet the international youth work’s world

On Saturday the 15th of March we made our local project in MagdeburgThe aim of this day was to give the possibility to the youth from the Magdeburg theatre youth club to discover how is working an office for international youth work. Our working methods :We started with a game called „One step forward“. In the youth work we like to work with some concrete exercises because this is a good method to make the people thinking by themselves. The topic of this game is discrimination and solidarity. Concept : each participants get a piece of paper with a specific role on it, which expressed different social status. We gave them role like: „You are homeless “, “you live in a poor family and break your studies before your graduation” or „you are the daughter of a bank director“. Which are definitely different positions in society. Then we started to ask them some questions relative to their new position in the society, like “ you can plan to go in holiday once a year” or “you can invite some friend at home”…When the phrases apply to the role, you have had to make one step forward. If not then they had to stay in their position. At least, the youngsters stood in different places. At the end of the game they were all at a different place. We started a debate with the youth and the member of your team to try to understand why such situation happened and if it is fair, that one is higher in society and one lower.

The discussion was really successful because all the participants were involved and wanted to add something. It was a real debate.

On the 5th of march 2008 , the greek team organised an event about “youth participation” in the municipality of Emmanouil Papas in Serres.

This event was the result of a meeting between the greek group, that will come to Germany, the mayor of the municipality of Em.Papas and other representatives of the local authorities.

Our program was hosted by cultural organization of Neo Souli and included the following presentations :

1. “Youth participation” at the local level prepared and presented by Foulia ( one member of the Greek team).

2. The enviroment and actions such as recycling, tree planting and ecological agriculture, prepared and presented by Dimitra (teamer).

3.The Unesco club of Serres participated in this open event and mrs Kaiti Emmanouilidu presented our plans about the olive park. ( Unesco club of Serres is already working on the olive tree route program and the creation of the olive park will be one of the attractions of this route.)

The number of participants exceeded our expectations (about 60-70 people). The event was covered by local media (television, radio and newspaper).

We believe that the event created positive outcomes. The local politicians are open to our proposals and available to help us in whatever we need.

This event is the first step in our effort to engage ourselves and others in participation in Democracy.

Yesterday we had meeting with 3 girls - participants, who will go to Germany in end of March, and their mothers. Project coordinator Agne told about the Centre of creative expressions, project and planned activities in Germany. Mothers had some questions and spoke about technical things: journey, place where participants will live, program.

Today a group of Lithuanian participants started doing local activities in our city – Kuršėnai. We had discussion of twenty young people on active citizenship and public spirit, witch lasted two hours. During the meeting we discussed who to our opinion is European citizen. We separated in groups and described our European citizens, which we imagine and want to see in future. After discussion about European citizen we had decided to find out what our local people think about public spirit. After thirteen minutes public opinion interviewing we made conclusion that our people on the spot believe that they are public-spirited.

This was good start and participants hope, that everything will be fine.
